Vietnamese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer VinFast has kicked off bookings for its VF6 and VF7 EVs in India today, a significant event for the company’s debut in the hotly contested Indian EV market. Both bikes can now be pre-booked at any VinFast showrooms or on the official VinFast website for a refundable booking amount of Rs 21,000.
It will be launched as an official launch in August 2025, after the opening of VinFast’s factory in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu. The deliveries will follow shortly after the launch, the two vehicles are locally-assembled at the Tamil Nadu plant.
VinFast VF6: Compact Electric SUV
As a family-focused compact electric SUV, the VF6 will take on rivals such as the Hyundai Creta Electric and MG Windsor EV Pro. The car has a 59.6kWh battery pack, with an estimated range of up to 440km on a single charge.
The power output changes depending on the configuration variant – the model would have a single-motor configuration in its 174 bhp and 250 Nm form, with more potent, 201 bhp and 350 Nm dual-motor versions. The VF6’s feature levels The VF6 will come in two feature levels, Earth and Wind.

VinFast VF7: Premium Electric SUV
VinFast’s flagship in India (and the bigger of the two) is expected to be the VF7 which packs 75.3kWh battery, for an anticipated range of over 450km. The premium electric mini-SUV will take on the BYD Atto 3 and BMW iX1L directly when it arrives.
The VF7 is available in single motor and dual motor setups. The front-wheel drive makes 201 bhp and 310 Nm whereas the all-wheel drive generates 348 bhp and 500 Nm. Model come in with Earth, Wind and Sky versions.

Pricing for the VF7 is anticipated between Rs 30-35 lakh, this making it a proper premium addition to the Indian electric SUV space.
Manufacturing and Distribution Strategy
VinFast has already announced an investment of USD 2 billion for its Thoothukudi facility, out of which the company will be creating investment of USD 500 million. Upon completion, the factory will have production capacity of 150,000 vehicles per year and is expected to create around 3,500 direct jobs.
The PMC has joined hands with 13 dealer groups to set up 32 dealerships in 27 cities by 2025 for this purpose. The first dealer network will be in key metros and emerging EV hubs such as Delhi, Gurugram, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Jaipur and Ahmedabad.

Charging Infrastructure and Partnerships
VinFast’s partnership with myTVS, RoadGrid and Global Assure is to develop a national charging network. Additionally, the firm has collaborated with battery recycling company BatX Energies to help ensure its battery’s life cycle management.
Each of the two vehicles is compatible with AC and DC fast charging, with the VF6 benefitting from CCS2 compatibility to access an extensive network of charging stations.
Market Positioning and Competition
The VF6 and VF7 are VinFast’s response to the compact and premium electric SUV segments in India. Aggressive pricing, thanks to the local assembly, puts these cars in good stead against established players in India’s booming EV market.
With its production scheduled to start this month and bookings opening as you read this, VinFast is attempting to be an actual player in our country’s electric vehicle ecosystem by offering feature-rich competition to what India has become accustomed to in this segment.
