TVS Reveals M1-S Electric Maxi-Scooter With 150km Range; India Launch Soon?

TVS Motor Company has officially teased its new M1-S electric maxi-scooter, revealing a muscular design and impressive specifications for the overseas market, sparking speculation about its potential debut in India. The scooter was first showcased on the company’s Indonesian website and is based on the ION M1-S from ION Mobility, a Singapore-based startup in which TVS has invested.

The TVS M1-S boasts a modern and aggressive design, characterized by twin headlights, eyebrow-style LED DRLs, and a large windscreen. It is built for both style and practicality, featuring a flat floorboard, a single-piece stepped seat, and 14-inch alloy wheels. This model marks TVS’s entry into the maxi-style electric scooter segment, a departure from its existing iQube and TVS X models.

Performance is a key highlight of the M1-S, which is equipped with a 4.3 kWh battery pack that powers a motor producing 12.5 kW of peak power and 254 Nm of torque. This setup enables the scooter to accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h in just 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 105 km/h. The company claims a range of 150 km on a single charge, with a charging time of approximately three hours.

Key features of the TVS M1-S include:

  • A 7-inch TFT instrument cluster.
  • Smart key functionality.
  • 26 liters of under-seat storage.
  • Telescopic front suspension and rear twin shocks.
  • Disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels.

While the initial launch is focused on Indonesia, the big question remains: will the TVS M1-S make its way to India? Given the limited options in the premium maxi-scooter segment in the country, the M1-S could be a significant game-changer. Its blend of performance, range, and features could set a new trend in the Indian EV market. While an official India launch date has not been confirmed, it is expected to arrive after its debut in Indonesia.

This development is part of TVS’s broader “Reimagine 2030” vision and its collaboration with ION Mobility, which aims to produce innovative electric vehicles for multiple markets.
