Triumph Thruxton 400 Cafe Racer Launching In August, Details Revealed

Triumph Motorcycles India’s successful 400cc roadster line-up is set to see a new addition soon as the company has confirmed the new marque with the launch date set for the first two weeks of August. The new model, which is strongly believed to be carrying the Thruxton 400 name, is built on the solid platform of the recently released Speed 400 and was snapped in full uncamouflaged glory, showing off its styling to the full.

The newcomer adopts a gentlemanly cafe racer look, clearly inspired by its bigger brothers. The major alterations consist of a bikini fairing over the circular LED headlamp, low-riding clip-on handle bars and the bar-end mirrors that promote a much more sporty and committed riding position. A characteristic rear seat cowl rounds off the design but is expected to be removable to carry a back seat passenger.

At its soul, the Thruxton 400 will have a the matching engine as the Speed 400. It will derive power from the 398.15 cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder TR-series engine that churns out a maximum power of 40 PS along with 37.5 Nm of torque, coupled to a six-speed gearbox. This guarantees performance will be just as responsive and involving as the roadster version.

New ergonomics are proposed along with new styling, but the Thruxton 400 will likely retain the high-spec componentry we’ve already seen on the Speed 400. Key features will likely include:

  • Ride-by-wire throttle
  • Switchable traction control
  • Dual-channel ABS
  • Upside-down 43mm front forks and a rear monoshock
  • A digi-analogue instrument cluster

Expected to be the company’s top-of-the-line 400cc offering, the Thruxton 400 is key between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400 X in the specs lineup, in an increasingly crowded Triumph 400cc range. According to its retro modern design and uniqueness Bajaj and Triumph are very much hopeful that the new cafe racer could be the best selling in Indian market and till now it is a niche segment.
