Toyota Kirloskar Motor has prioritised safety with the Toyota Glanza as the company announced that all variants of the hatchback will now get six airbags as standard in the range. This major addition puts the premium hatchback in pole position for city commuters and new drivers, while the new limited-edition Prestige Package brings even more style and technology to this much-loved car.
Enhanced Safety Takes Center Stage
Now, the Toyota Glanza’s safety has been amplified thanks to the addition of six airbags in all variants. However until now only the top G and V grades got this extensive airbag layout as standard equipment, where even the base E model makes its way with dual front airbags, side airbags and curtain airbags.
This safety enhancement adds to the host of safety features that the Glanza already possesses: Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Hill Hold, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), and the TECT (Total Effective Control Technology) body structure. The hatchback comes with ABS with EBD and BA, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat mounts for all-round safety of the occupants.
Prestige Package Adds Premium Appeal
Toyota has also introduced a limited-period Prestige Package for the Glanza, which will be available until July 31, 2025. The eight high-quality accessory items have been intelligently matched to not only complement the look of your vehicle, but also help protect it.
The Prestige Package features:
- High-quality door visors with steel inserts
- Chrome-accented body side moulding
- Back lamp garnish chrome finish
- Chrome Outside Rear View Mirror (ORVM) moulding
- Fender garnish
- Rear skid plate
- Illuminated door sills
- Lower grille garnish
These add-ons are designed to complement the design of the Glanza and offer protection as well as enhance its longevity.
Comprehensive Feature Portfolio
The new Glanza looks unaltered in terms of features across variants. The top-spec V trim gets a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Head-Up Display (HUD), 360-degree camera, and Toyota i-Connect with over 45 connected car features.
On the inside, features include automatic climate control, rear AC vents, tilt and telescopic wheel, dual-tone dashboard. Powertrain and Performance
The Glanza is still powered by the tried-and-tested 1.2-litre K-Series petrol engine that delivers 89 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 113 Nm at 4,400 rpm. This motor returns an ARAI fuel efficiency of 22.94kmpl with the AMT and 22.35kmpl with the MT.
The CNG with a power output of 76 bhp and 98.5 Nm of torque Driving range of 309.9 km (30.61 km/kg). There is a 5-speed manual gearbox for both petrol and CNG while petrol models also get an optional 5-speed AMT.
Market Position and Pricing
Toyota Glanza begins at Rs 6.90 lakh for the E variant and stretches to Rs 10.00 lakh for the V AMT variant (all prices, ex-showroom). This pricing regime price makes the Glanza competitively placed against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno (Rs 6.70-9.92 lakh), Hyundai i20 (Rs 7.51-11.25 lakh) and Tata Altroz (Rs 6.89-11.49 lakh).
The Toyota-badged hatchback has added value in the form of better after-sales service, a better 3-year/100,000 km warranty (which can even be extended to 5 years/220,000 km), reliability, and resale value.
Segment Leadership Through Safety
With more than 2 lakh units sold in India, it has proven to be a bestseller in the premium hatchback segment. The inclusion of six airbags as standard in all variants is probably the biggest boost in its safety package with competitors, having a full complement of airbags only on top-tiers, at a comparative disadvantage.
The announcement of this safety update coincides with the rising cognisance around vehicle safety amongst customers, and the challenge to have safer cars on our roads by 2019, with the AIS145 safety regulations coming into play. Standardizing six airbags, Toyota shows how serious its intent is in democratizing safety capabilities across price brackets.
