Hyundai Creta takes back throne with 15,786 units sold, narrowly edging out Maruti Brezza in a poweful Indian SUV market
Share in the Indian Mid-size SUV segment fight was fierce in June 2025, and the Hyundai Creta completes an epic comeback from the brink to lead the chart. The Creta (sold 15,786 units), which spent the past few months playing catch up with the Maruti Dzire, beat its rivals by a slim 302 units to regain the crown of the highest-selling vehicle in India.
Market Leaders Show Strong Performance
The numbers for June 2025 sales have been released and it’s a battle royal between the best midsize SUVs in India. The Maruti Brezza held on to be the second best-selling SUV, while Mahindra Scorpio series continued to clock respectable sales numbers.
The Mahindra XUV700 continued to be strong in the premium midsized segment and the Toyota’s Urban Cruiser Hyryder held ground in the market with its appeal on hybrid technology. Technology Upgrades Drive 2025 Models
Segment-wide technology upgrades arrive for the 2025 model year. The Hyundai Creta still sits at the top with the most amount of life-saving features, dual-zone climate control, and 360-degree camera system. The new version is available in three engine options — a 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol and a 1.5-litre diesel which come with power output of 113 bhp to 158 bhp.
Mahindra 2025 Scorpio N to grid introduces Level 2 ADAS functions including adaptive cruise control, lane departure warring and automated emergency braking. The SUV gets its same old 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine making 175 horsepower and 400 Nm torque, while also getting a new 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine making 200 horsepower.

Hybrid Technology Gains Momentum
The 2025 Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder line-up supplements its hybrid credentials with added features such as an 8-way power-adjustable driver seat, ventilated front seats and as standard with six airbags. Both mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid systems are available for pairing with the SUV’s 1.5-liter petrol-engine, the stronger hybrid offering fuel economy that is impressively high.
Toyota’s hybrid version generates 91 bhp and 141 Nm using its e-Drive transmission unit. For 2025 model year, 6-speed AWD becomes the standard transmission, replacing 5-speed MT grille introduce as well.
Premium Features Become Standard
Popular Mahindra XUV700 maintains its premium philosophy while seeing subtle styling changes and improved aerodynamics for 2025. Inside, the SUV comes with dual 10.25-inch screens, AdrenoX 2.0 connected car system, and a 12-speaker Sony 3D sound system. Both the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines get efficient tweaks that retain the performance equation.
Maruti’s Brezza retains its value-for-money character with loads of features and trusty old 1.5 L K-Series petrol power. The sub-compact SUV delivers an excellent mileage of 20-26 km/l and has a boot space of 382 liters.
Market Outlook Remains Positive
June 2025 also saw the midsize SUV segment showing buyer confidence. However, with the Oct sales numbers, the Hyundai Creta has raced to the top and that just goes to show the significance of consistent feature updates and a competitive price point. The Creta recorded month-on-month recovery in June with 15,786 units sold, though this was still a fall of 13% compared to 14,860 units in May.
According to industry experts, the segment continues to be on a growth march, supported by growing urbanization, higher disposable incomes and consumer inclination toward SUVs in place of regular sedans. Increasing technologies such as safety systems as well as hybrid powertrains and connected car tech are drawing shoppers in multiple price ranges.
That is competitive pressures for this segment dictate that manufacturers can’t afford to rest on their laurels, meaning consumers win as each new model brings additional features, improves safety, or packs on value in the midsize SUV market.
