Nissan Magnite Earns 5-Star GNCAP Safety Rating: Full Details Inside

The Made-in-India Nissan Magnite joins the latest Global NCAP crash tests with a full 5-star safety rating for adult occupant protection. This is a big turnaround for the subcompact SUV, which has received several significant safety enhancements to get it here.

In an example of the willingness to keep bettering, Nissan also submitted the Magnite for re-evaluation on a voluntary basis several times. The SUV claimed only two stars when retesting was mandated in 2025 and fresh(er) and stricter GNCAP testing protocols were implemented. Unhappy, Nissan added important safety equipment to the vehicle and, with the key features in place, the van’s score climbed from two stars to five stars in later tests.

The final five-star version features a comprehensive safety suite, including:

  • Improved restraint systems and pedestrian protection features
  • Six standard airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC)
  • Three-point seatbelts for all passengers

In recent tests, the adult occupant protection rating of the Magnite was found to be 32.31 out of 34. The bodyshell of the vehicle was likewise classified as stable and robust for additional loadings.

Magnite scored an impressive three-star adult safety score, but its rating for child occupant protection stood at three stars too, with a score of 33.64 out of 49 points. This is actually a slight step-down from a previous four-star child occupant protection score earned during an intermediate test run.

The child seat for the three-year-old dummy, installed properly, however, “was not able to prevent head contact with the interior of the car” in the frontal crash test, leading to the points deducted, according to the GNCAP report.

This two to five-star journey reflects on an increasing focus by the manufacturers on safety in the fiercely competitive Indian market. As reported by NDTV Auto earlier, this 5-star rating is the new yardstick of success.
