Nissan’s much-anticipated new C-segment SUV has been spotted testing on Indian roads for the very first time. Based on the same platform as the next-generation Renault Duster, this SUV is poised to challenge established segment leaders like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos. The heavily camouflaged test mule reveals a bold, boxy design, with an India launch anticipated for mid-2026.
The spy shots suggest the new SUV will have a commanding presence, featuring an upright, flat fascia and a large grille seemingly inspired by the iconic Nissan Patrol. Flared wheel arches, chunky roof rails, and five-spoke alloy wheels further enhance its muscular stance. The images also hint at modern lighting systems, including rectangular LED taillights and potentially a connected LED light bar at the front.
This upcoming SUV is expected to be a direct derivative of the new Renault Duster, reviving the successful platform-sharing strategy previously seen with the Duster and Nissan Terrano. While it remains unconfirmed, Nissan might resurrect the ‘Terrano’ nameplate for this new model. The vehicle is a crucial part of Nissan’s renewed product offensive in India, which includes a 5-seater C-SUV and a 7-seater MPV.
To compete in the crowded compact SUV segment, Nissan is expected to pack the vehicle with a host of modern features. A camera module spotted on the windscreen suggests the inclusion of an Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) suite. Other potential features include:
- A large touchscreen infotainment system
- Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
- A digital instrument cluster
- Ventilated front seats
- A panoramic sunroof
- A 360-degree surround-view camera
Under the hood, Nissan is set to offer only petrol and strong-hybrid powertrain options, having ruled out diesel engines for its future Indian lineup. The new SUV will be manufactured locally at the Renault-Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai and exported to global markets, aligning with the company’s ‘One Car, One World’ strategy. A seven-seater version of this SUV is expected to follow its launch in 2027.
