New Kinetic Electric Scooter Spied Testing With Retro ZX Design

Kinetic Green’s electric scooter takes its visual cues from the legendary Kinetic Honda ZX and is designed with a combination of retro elements and advanced electric powertrain technology. The prototype has been noticed on Indian roads testing and is a crucial step for the brand’s nostalgic return to the two-wheeler electric segment.

Retro ZX Styling with Electric Technology

The spy pictures showcase a scooter that is unmistakably based on the design language of the legendary Kinetic Honda ZX from the 1980s. Droppings that scream “retro” include a square headlamp, scant side panels, and the familiar narrow front apron that helped turn the original ZX into an instant classic.

Here, the new electric version has a well-known handlebar cowl with a short windscreen and the same position of the front number plate and mirror as on the parent ZX. There are even low-key vents in the side panels, a clear reference to the iconic model’s legendary styling details.

Modern Touches for Contemporary Riders

And even though this silhouette is steeped in nostalgia, Kinetic has added in several updated elements to give the scooter a new school feel. The scooter gets LED headlamps with K-shaped LED DRL positioned on the handlebar unlike the original’s traditional lighting configuration.

The test mule seen testing seems to have a hub motor layout, which is cost effective when it comes to battery-powered two wheelers. Suspension duties will be carried out by telescopic forks upfront and a box-type swingarm with dual shock absorbers at the rear, although this specific test mule is equipped with a front disc brake.

Family-Focused Practicality

The next scooter is less about performance and more about daily use with a wide floorboard and a chunky single piece grab rail suitable for family usage. With a broad front apron and large dimensions, this model seems to cater for practical day-to-day commuting rather than performance-oriented riding.

Industry expectations suggest a digital touchscreen display and other tech upgrades in line with current electric scooter trends. The design patent from Kinetic Watts & Volts, a subsidiary of the Kinetic Group, shows just how serious this retro-electric revival could be.

Market Positioning and Competition

This classic-looking electric scooter will rival the likes of the Bajaj Chetak and TVS iQube in the premium electric scooter space. The ZX-based styling allows Kinetic to enjoy a unique positioning as the face of nostalgia with contemporary electric performance at its core.

This comes in line with Kinetic Green’s aggressive plan to step up its footprint, having already announced in November 2020 that it plans to roll out a family-oriented electric scooter by 2025 with a range of battery options varying from 1.8 kWh to 3 kWh and a top speed of about 80 kmph.

Production and Launch Timeline

From the spy images that have appeared online, it appears that the development of the scooter may be in the last stages with the test mule looking production-ready. Kinetic Green is developing a new 42-acre plant for the production of 10 lakh two-wheelers — expected to be the manufacturing hub of the retro-electric vehicle.

With its ambitious expansion plans, the company raised USD 25 million Series A funding and expects another USD 15-20 million in investments. With Kinetic Green setting its sights on a top line of Rs 10,000 crore by 2030, this retro electric scooter is a key cog in its growth story.
