Mercedes GLS AMG Line Arrives In India, Prices Start At Rs 1.4 Crore

Mercedes-Benz has added a new member to its flagship SUV range in India, the GLS AMG Line, a sportier and more imposing version of the popular full-sized GLS luxury SUV. The new model features increasingly dynamic performance and sporty expression – and it’s here to meet the needs of performance enthusiasts looking for a more expressive driving experience in the large luxury SUV segment.

Two Engines and an Upgraded Price Tag

The GLS AMG Line comes in two versions ‑ the petrol powered GLS 450 AMG Line, which is priced at ₹ 1.40 crore (ex-showroom) and the diesel powered GLS 450d AMG Line at ₹ 1.43 crore (ex-showrooms). Both versions have similar performance numbers despite the different engine configurations and will also take just 6.1 seconds to reach 100 kmph from a standstill with the top speed limited electronically at 250 kmph.

The petrol version gets a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine delivering 375bhp and 500Nm of peak torque, whereas the diesel version is integrated by a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder diesel engine that churns out 362bhp and a mammoth torque of 750Nm. Both engines are mated to a 9-speed automatic and come standard with 4MATIC all-wheel drive.

AMG-Inspired Design Language

The GLS AMG Line ups the ante in terms of visual appeal; the changes apply the AMG model treatment to the exterior so that there is no mistaking it’s anything other than an AMG model. The outer transformation is comprised of AMG front aprons with flics also in high-gloss black (at the front), front and rear wheel arch flares, and body-colored AMG side sills. On the back it shows air-vents on the wings, an AMG rear apron with diffuser-look insert in black and chrome trim strips.

The perforated front discs and brake calipers at the rear end with “Mercedes-Benz” lettering add performance as well as style to the car. An optional AMG Night Package provides black exterior mirror housings, matte black roof rails and 21-inch light-alloy wheels to underline the sporty appearance.

Enhanced Interior Sportiness

Interior enhancements underscore that the AMG Line is a performance-oriented lineup with a sport steering wheel featuring a 3-twin-spoke design, along with black top stitching. The steering wheel utilizes a flat bottom design with perforated grip area and also incorporated with flappy paddle gear shifters for a more engaging driving experience. To complement the transformation of the interior, AMG sports pedals in brushed stainless steel with black rubber studs and black floor mats with AMG lettering are also fitted.

Market Position And Competition

The GLS AMG Line steps into a segment led by the BMW X7 (Rs 1.31 crore onwards) and the Audi Q8 (between Rs 1.17 crore and Rs 1.43 crore). Mercedes’ entry also plants a flag as the range’s most powerful, the petrol version matching the BMW X7 with 375 hp, while the diesel version destroys competitors with torque output.

Strong Market Performance Context

Launched off the back of Mercedes-Benz India’s Q1 2025 retail sales performance—which was a record for Q1—the company sold over 4,238 units and achieved a 10% year-on-year growth. The firm’s Top-End Luxury category grew an outstanding 20% due to strong demand for S-Class, Maybach, and AMG models. BEV sales spiked with 157% growth, which accounted for 8% of total volumes for the quarter.

The GLS AMG Line is yet another element of Mercedes-Benz’s expression of its commitment to customers with more action-packed AMG thrills, reinforcing its strategy in India’s upper-end market. With waiting periods extending up to six months for some top-end models, the GLS AMG Line is already positioned to take advantage of increasing customer demand for exclusive luxury vehicles featuring elevated levels of personalization.
