Maruti Suzuki is prepping up for its biggest-ever SUV onslaught with nine new models slated between 2025-2027, which will comprise the auto giant’s initial EV offering, sophisticated hybrid powertrains and new-age ICE models. The e Vitara is the first off the blocks and will arrive in September 2025, preceding a slew of hybrid SUVs as well as a seven-seater variant of the Grand Vitara.
Electric Revolution: e Vitara Leads the EV Charge
Making an electric debut is the Maruti’s e Vitara hits the road in September 2025, priced ranging between ₹17-22.50 lakh. Based on the exclusive e-Heartect platform, this medium size electric SUV is expected to deliver in excess of 550 km on full-charge (60kWh battery pack).
Direct rivals of the e Vitara in India will include the Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, and MG ZS EV in the growing electric SUV segment. The vehicles will be manufactured at the Suzuki Gujarat plant, leading to competitive pricing through local production.
After the e Vitara, the WagonR Electric is due in January 2026 with a tag of ₹8-8.50 lakh, and it will be the among most affordable electric cars in India.
Hybrid Offensive: Focus on Our Own In-House Technology
Maruti’s hybrid gameplan is shaped by its new Series Hybrid powertrain which will make its debut on the Fronx Hybrid in 2025. This in-house set-up features the Z12E three-cylinder engine as a generator to drive an electric motor that turns the wheels.
Series Hybrid has some cost advantages over the traditional parallel Hybrid, which is important given India’s 43% tax on hybrids which is 5% for EVs. The Fronx Hybrid will come with Level 2 ADAS safety tech and some hot fuel economy.

Likely it to arrive in August 2025 from ₹8.50 lakh which will be a significant facelift with revised styling and might see some additional powertrain as well.
S-Cross Returns
The S-Cross facelift is scheduled for September 2025, priced for around ₹10 lakh and will also bring back the nameplate in India after the discontinuation.
Escudo Launch

Market Background: But Here’s The Rub
Maruti has taken a challenging path with its roadmap. The company’s belated foray into the EV space translates into playing catch up to incumbents like Tata Motors and Hyundai. There’s also no government subsidies for hybrids which put a squeeze on prices that pure EVs don’t have.
The strong hybrid version of the Grand Vitara you bought was successful too—20% of sales in ’23 were for a hybrid—so we’re comfortable bunging the thing into more models. Unfortunately, the valuable assets in terms of capabilities that such technologies have to offer can have a price that may not be affordable to the mass market.
