Country’s largest carmaker—Maruti Suzuki India Limited has officially announced the launch date of its first ever electric vehicle — the e Vitara and it is going to be on September 3, 2025. The development comes as a major milestone for India’s largest automaker as it makes its way into the EV arena, but with a product that is built to take on the likes of the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, and MG ZS EV.
The e Vitara is Maruti Suzuki’s step toward India’s dynamic electric mobility ecosystem and was unveiled at the Bharat Mobility Global Show 2025. The company has finally committed to the September date following several setbacks from its originally scheduled May 2025 launch, this to tie in with the pre-Christmas spending season.
650km+ Range – Two Batteries Available
The e Vitara will also come with two battery options to suit customer requirements. 49 kWh battery and 142 bhp electric motor for the standard variant and 61 kWh for 172 bhp for the top-end variant. Both layouts do produce the same 192 Nm torque.
Claimed figures place the e Vitara well within the field. The smaller battery pack provides a WLTP range of 346km, the larger 61kWh version 428km for the single-motor variant. Maruti says the e Vitara will have a range of over 500 km at one full charge and can be driven intercity.
Premium Features And Advanced Safety
The e Vitara comes with some new features for a Maruti product. Inside, there’s a twin-screen set-up that includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 10.1-inch digital driver display. High-quality features such as a 10-speaker Infinity sound system, multi-color ambient lighting, and a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat are a few of the possible lush amenities.
Safety accreditations are well-thought-out with 7 airbags fitted as standard with a driver knee airbag. The e Vitara is the first ever Maruti to be equipped with Level 2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance Systems) that includes adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist and blind spot monitoring. Other features for safety are 360 camera, electronic parking brake, and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).

Design And Build Quality
Developed on a dedicated electric vehicle platform, HEARTECT-e, the e-Vitara places strong emphasis not only on the cabin space, but also on the structural integrity. The outside looks rugged and SUV inspired courtesy 18-inch alloy wheels, signature Y-shaped LED DRLs and a piano black front grille panel.
Maruti design language is left far behind as the interior makes use of a dual-tone brown and black colour combination. Inside the cabin is leatherette upholstery, ventilated front seats and rear seats that both slide and recline to ensure passenger contentment. Contributing to the premium feel is a fixed glass roof, which is smaller than the panoramic units available in competing models.
Market Positioning And Competition
It is expected to be priced between ₹17-22.50 lakh putting the e Vitara right in the mix with some of the established electric SUVs. The announcement comes just ahead of the Indian festive season, which has boded well for auto sales.
Dealerships are accepting unofficial bookings at ₹25,000 a token amount, which suggests strong market interest. The e Vitara will be sold at NEXA outlets which is Maruti’s premium retail network, and exported to international markets, including UK, where it was already launched.
