Mahindra Scorpio N Pickup Truck Spied Testing In Maharashtra – Key Details

Mahindra’s new lifestyle truck spied testing in India with dual-cab layout; shares descendants of the Scorpio N ahead of global premiere

The upcoming Mahindra Scorpio N test mule has recently been spotted testing in Maharashtra, making it the latest sighting of the highly awaited lifestyle utility vehicle that’s scheduled to be revealed. The latest spy shots show a double-cab variant that is all covered up in camouflage, but the main details are still distinguishable underneath the camo.

The test prototype reveals a few unique elements which are in-line with the Scorpio N family. The design of the pick-up resembles its SUV sibling and features the typical headlight shape and the LED DRL signature. Production-spec alterations are apparent, the test mule having basic steel wheels instead of the concept’s expensive-looking alloys.

The most conspicuous changes over the original Global Pik Up concept is the much taller roll bar that peaks above the cab’s roof. This workaday safety item wouldn’t seem to fit into the rollover protection of the prototype’s shoulder line or the sporty styling of the 2023 concept ski boat.

Halogen taillights are found at the back instead of the LED clusters on the concept car. These units has similarity like one on the earlier Scorpio Getaway, indicating a budget-friendly solution for the production version.

Engine and Performance Specifications

On the hood, the Scorpio N contains the famous 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine by Mahindra that churns out 175bhp and 400Nm of torque. This Gen-II oil burner with an all-aluminium block and head is also under the hood of the regular Scorpio N (and the Anglo-Indian Getaway variant) and is expected to have good power for both utility and lifestyle requirements.

Transmission options will include:

  • 6-speed manual gearbox
  • 6-speed automatic transmission
  • 4WD capability with shift-on-the-fly functionality

The pick-up will also available in four driving modes – Normal, Sand, Mud-Rut and Grass-Gravel-Snow for various terrain are available.

Mahindra is calling this a truly global product, with key markets like South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and GCC countries. It’s planned to be launched globally first, but the Indian market is likely to receive it around 2026.

As India’s first attempt at an all-new design of perty much a pickup identity rather than a new variant based on Scorpio, the pickup find itself as one of the first from its stable. That’s a strategic move and a sign Honda is serious about becoming a global pickup truck player.

Price is expected to be in the range of ₹15-25 lakh which will directly rival the Toyota Hilux in a few international markets. The pickup truck is well timed as the global interest in lifestyle utility vehicles has never been higher.

Single-cab and double-cab iterations are still in the works, with the latest spy shots revealing that the testing of both body styles in Indian conditions has been completed. The extensive testing on the toughest of Indian landscapes, indicates a meticulously tested product, ensuring that it will be thoroughly validated before global launch.
