Kia enters the mass-market EV space in India with its maiden made-in-India EV – the Carens Clavis EV with a competitive price tag of Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The electric MPV comes with two battery options and a claimed range of 490 km, making it a significant leap in the Korean carmaker’s electrification strategy for India.
Key Launch Details
The Carens Clavis EV was unveiled today and will be on sale from today and bookings will start from today July 22, 2025. This will be Kia’s first volume electric product for India as premium models like EV6 and EV9 are already on sale there.
The electric MPV is available in four versions and two battery types. It begins with the base HTK Plus version, which is priced at Rs 17.99 lakh, all the way up to the range-topping HTX Plus ER that will set you back by Rs 24.49 lakh.

Powertrain And Performance
The Carens Clavis EV comes with 171 hp permanent magnet electric motor that can produce 255 Nm of torque and can accelerate from 0-100 kmph in 8.4 seconds. The front-engine layout gives it some go for a seven-seater MPV.
Two battery pack variants offer a solution to various user demands. The 42 kWh battery yields the ARAI-certified range of 404 km, and the larger 51.4 kWh has a longer shade of 490 km. The two battery packs are IP-67 certified and have passed the water immersion, drop, and extensive vibration tests.
Charging Capabilities
The EV is 100 kW DC fast charging capable, which can help the car recover 10-80% charge in 39 minutes. For those who prefer to charge at home, there are 7.4 kW and 11 kW AC chargers to choose from based on their needs.
Kia announces tech info of the K-Charge system that they have developed, which is available through the MyKia app and is connected to more than 11,000 charging points in India in collaboration with a total of 18 Charge Point Operators. This network exists both in cities and along highways for daily commutes and between cities for long hauls.

Design And Features
Clavis EV features all the characteristic design of an EV, along with the unique elements of MPV. The car’s front grille is blocked out, with its centrally-mounted charging point prominently showcased front and centre with a blue-lit LED strip above it.
Major exterior changes include new front and rear bumpers, LED fog lamps, EGL-specific badging and aero-optimized 17-inch alloy wheels to improve efficiency. There is also a panoramic sunroof available on all versions of the model.
Interior And Technology
The cabin is generally modern in a monochrome black and white tone with a floating center console and a pair of 12.3-inch screens. The 2-spoke steering wheel, touch panel controls, and 8-speaker Bose sound system add a luxurious feeling to the cabin as well.
Useful additions comprise a 25-litre frunk, Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) technology for external devices’ power, dual-zone climate control, and wireless charging for the rear riders as well. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are also included in the EV.
Safety Equipment
And what customer wouldn’t feel safe in a vehicle with SRS airbags, ESC, ABS, hill-start assist, TPMS, and all-wheel disc brakes as standard? Top versions get Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera system and a virtual engine sound system to protect pedestrians.
Market Positioning
The Carens Clavis EV is a direct rival to the Hyundai Creta Electric with shared E-GMP platform and similar powertrain options. For Rs 17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), it is cheaper than multiple electric SUVs and boasts the convenience of a seven-seater MPV.
Kia offers a comprehensive aftersales support system, including over 250 EV-dedicated service bays throughout the country and more than 100 dealerships equipped with DC chargers, from 60 kW to 240 kW. The EV is covered by an 8-year/160,000 km warranty.
