Hyundai Creta N Line Spotted with Powerful 1.6L Turbo Engine

So here’s something that caught our attention – a test unit of the Hyundai Creta N Line was recently spotted in Brazil, and guess what? It’s packing a beefier 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that’s got us wondering if India might see this upgrade too.

Now, the Brazilian-spec Creta N Line getting this power bump is pretty significant. Their current model runs a rather modest 1.0-litre turbo, so this is quite the leap. What makes it even more interesting is that our Indian Creta N Line already has a 1.5-litre turbo under the hood, which puts it right in the sweet spot between these two variants.

Engine Specifications

The test car didn’t try to hide much – there was a clear ‘1.6-TGDI’ badge plastered on the tailgate, basically announcing the engine upgrade to anyone paying attention. This new mill pumps out a healthy 191 bhp and 265 Nm of torque, which is a massive jump from Brazil’s current setup that makes do with just 118 bhp and 172 Nm from that tiny 1.0-litre unit. The engine only comes with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic, no manual option here.

Just to put things in perspective, our Indian Creta N Line sits comfortably in between with its 1.5-litre turbo churning out 158 bhp and 253 Nm. Plus, we get the choice of a 6-speed manual or the 7-speed DCT.

Design and Features

The spy shots show an uncamouflaged Creta N Line in silver, and honestly, it doesn’t look dramatically different from what we already know. The Brazilian version does get slightly bigger 18-inch alloys compared to some other markets, but that’s about it. You still get the familiar N Line treatment – those red accents, sportier bumpers, and the twin-tip exhaust that gives it that performance SUV vibe.

Inside, expect the same all-black cabin theme with red stitching everywhere, the N-branded steering wheel and gear knob, plus that red ambient lighting that runs across the dashboard and door panels. It’s not revolutionary, but it works.

Pricing and Market Strategy

In Brazil, this upgraded Creta N Line is expected to cost around R$ 200,000, which translates to roughly ₹31.15 lakh. That’s not a huge jump from the current R$ 188,720 (about ₹29.39 lakh) price tag, so the premium seems reasonable for the extra performance.

Will India Get the 1.6L Engine?

Here’s the big question everyone’s asking – will we see this engine in India? Well, here’s the thing: neither Hyundai nor Kia currently uses this 1.6-litre turbo in any of their India-bound models. That makes a direct transplant pretty unlikely, at least in the short term.

Our Creta N Line launched in March 2024 with prices starting at ₹16.82 lakh and going up to ₹20.30 lakh. The current 1.5-litre engine actually strikes a nice balance – it’s got enough punch for most situations and still manages 18-18.2 kmpl, which is decent for a turbo petrol.

Given how price-conscious our market is, and the fact that this engine isn’t even in Hyundai’s local lineup, the 1.6-litre upgrade seems better suited for markets where people are willing to pay more for that extra performance kick.

The Creta N Line has been doing pretty well here, going head-to-head with the Kia Seltos X-Line, Volkswagen Taigun GT, and Skoda Kushaq Monte Carlo. For now, we’ll have to stick with the current 158 bhp setup – though let’s be honest, it’s not exactly slow for our roads and traffic conditions anyway.
