New Delhi: BYD’s brand-new compact electric SUV, the Atto 2, has been spotted out and about on Indian roads, sparking guesses that we might see it launch before the year wraps up. During testing, it was even seen alongside the popular Hyundai Creta, suggesting BYD is aiming straight for the heart of India’s competitive compact SUV segment. Word is, this could be BYD’s most affordable electric car here yet, with expected prices between ₹18 lakh and ₹20 lakh.
The Atto 2 first made waves at the 2025 Brussels Motor Show. It’s built on BYD’s efficient e-Platform 3.0 and sits as a smaller sibling to the successful Atto 3. Measuring 4,310mm long — that’s about 145mm shorter than the Atto 3 — it’s clearly positioned to take on rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV and the soon-to-launch Maruti Suzuki eVitara. Although BYD India hasn’t officially announced the launch date yet, the frequent sightings tell us they’re moving fast to bring a wallet-friendly EV to Indian buyers eager for greener wheels.
In Europe, the Atto 2 comes with two battery options, and we expect something similar for India:
- Battery & Range: The base model packs a 45.1 kWh Blade Battery that offers a WLTP-certified range of about 312 km. There’s probably a larger battery option that could deliver over 400 km on a single charge.
- Performance: Under the hood, a front-mounted motor outputs 130 kW (177 hp) and 290 Nm of torque, promising peppy city driving.
- Dimensions: The Atto 2 measures 4,310mm long, widens out to 1,830mm, and stands 1,675mm tall. Its wheelbase stretches to 2,620mm, which should offer decent cabin space for passengers.
BYD plans to equip the Atto 2 with its famous Blade Battery technology, a system known for being both safe and reliable. Inside, expect features like a rotating central touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof for airy feel, and a packed suite of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) to keep you safe on the road. If BYD prices it right, the Atto 2 could shake up India’s EV market and pose a serious challenge to the usual compact SUV players.
