Ather Energy will unveil its affordable electric scooter platform EL on August 30, 2025, at the two-wheeler maker’s annual Community Day in Bengaluru. This is a big move for the premium electric scooter company and it will be the first time that the company will be stepping into the sub-₹1 lakh segment.
Game-Changing Platform Targets Mass Market
The EL platform is Ather’s most significant step yet toward accessible electric mobility. Designed to be versatile and cost-effective, the new stable will maker Ather capable of making affordable scooters that will lock horns with the likes of Ola S1X, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak and Hero Vida.
Till now Ather has held its ground in the premium segment with tech-loaded, high-performance scooters. The EL platform flips this on its head, focusing on small batteries and conservative performance to support aggressive pricing.
Community Day 2025: Beyond the Scooters
The 3rd edition of Ather’s Community Day will be held at KTPO (Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation), Bangalore. Among the curtain raisers are the number of reveals beyond the EL platform (whose lab demonstration I’ve already seen), done to the theme of this year’s symposium, Technology that works like magic.
What’s Coming on August 30:
- Brand new EL-based concept cars highlighting the flexibility of the platform
- Faster charging – new fast chargers which connect better to EVs and are faster to connect
- Ather Stack 7.0 update with new features
- We may see electric motorcycle ideas based on the above island cryptic if early signals are anything to go by Everybody’s first electric motorcycle design
Breaking Tradition: Open to All
In a first for Ather, Ather’s Community Day will be open to non-Ather owners. Prior editions have been only for current customers, but this year invites to all those with an interest in automotive technology, design, engineering or hardware.

Battery-as-a-Service Integration
The new EL-based scooters will additionally offer Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) models, making electric mobility even more affordable for people and removing significant price barriers besides. This subscription service reflects Ather’s approach to make electric transportation accessible as well.
Market Impact and Competition
Ather’s foray into the mass-market could redefine India’s electric scooter space. With competitors alredy present in the sub-₹1 lakh domain, the EL platform is Ather’s response to the mass market call while not loosing insight off its technology focus as a brand.
The timing is appropriate given that the masses are beginning to embrace electric vehicles in India, for which affordable options are a necessity. Ather’s high-end know-how in a wallet-friendly package could make for an interesting value proposition.
