Suzuki is preparing to reintroduce the Jimny in heavily updated avatar this August, complete with a hybrid powertrain to comply with stricter emission norms. The news arrives as Jeepey continue to grow its Jimny range internationally, on the back of the launch of the Jimny Nomade five-door in Japan earlier this year.
What’s Coming in August?
With that, knowing how Suzuki works we can assume that the 2025 Suzuki Jimny will come in a hybrid engine and will be fulfilling the the new emission standards. It’s a big move for the legendary off-roader, which has primarily used regular (non-turbo) petrol engines in the past.
The current Jimny right now is powered by Suzuki’s tried-and-tested K15B 1.5-litre gasoline engine which delivers 103-109hp and 134-136Nm. The hybrid model is presumed to take that system and then add a jolt of electric assist for a greener fuel bill and less noxious tailpipe gases.
Five-Door Success Story
Suzuki has already shown the Jimny’s future development with the Jimny Nomade five-door concept debuted in Japan on April 3, 2025. This version extends the total car length and wheelbase and continues the Jimny series’s classic style of off-road vehicle.
Some of the main features of the Jimny Nomade are:
- Length Overall: 3890mm (+340mm over three-door)
- Wheelbase: 2,590mm (2,250mm for three-door)
- Ground clearance: 210mm
- Approach angle: 36 degrees
- Departure angle: 47 degrees
The popularity of the five-door version has led to more than 50,000 bookings as of February 2025.

But There’s A Catch
Although the hybrid reveal ramps up the anticipation, Suzuki hasn’t confirmed the powertrain type or the availability in different markets yet. The August launch window, is also yet to be confirmed by the official Suzuki sources.
How well the hybrid system affects the Jimny’s off-road prowess and towing capacity will no doubt be vital for likes of off-road enthusiasts who prize the Jimny’s ruggedness over simply its fuel economy.
Market Competition
The 2025 Jimny will face challenge from established rivals such as Mahindra Thar (₹11.50-17.62 lakh) and Force Gurkha (₹16.75 lakh). Suzuki could have a huge advantage in the urban markets where emission norms are getting tighter and tighter, by offering the hybrid powertrain.
The launch is also timely as India moves towards cleaner mobility solutions, with the hybrid engine Jimny seeming like a good option for buyers looking to enjoy off-roading while being environment-conscious.
