Mahindra has dropped one more tantalizing teaser of its new Vision.T concept and gives us a more clear look at what the legendary Thar’s electric future is set to be like. The newest teaser reveals the detailed avatar of the rough and tough SUV, before it is launched on August 15, 2025 in Mumbai at the Freedom_NU event.
Vision.T: That electric Thar’s bold new avatar
The latest is a profile shot of Vision.T, which is expected as it was anticipated for long that this is a next gen Thar.e concept that was first previewed in South Africa in August 2023. The partial reveal reveals the SUV’s unmistakable boxy shape, squared-off bonnet and angular design elements that have made the Thar a cult off-road icon.
A few design highlights seen in the teaser: the car is to have prominently styled wheel arches, off-road-spec tyres that have a chunky profile, and unique front-hood latches that are capable of retaining the Thar’s utilitarian character. The side profile exposes sharp body lines and enhanced wheel arches which hints towards the SUV’s off-road characteristics whilst blending in modern electric vehicle design cues.
Production-Ready Electric Off-Roader
It’s not the Vision, that’s for sure. T seems way closer to reality. According to industry experts, this 5-door electric SUV could come with a dual-motor all-wheeler drive layout, and would be one of the first electric cars to be engineered for serious off-roading outings.
The Vision.T is reportedly based on Mahindra’s INGLO P1 platform, a variant of the architecture that also underpins the BE 6 and XEV 9E. The platform is claimed to offer the immediate torque that’s synonymous with an electric powertrain, as well as ground clearance and approach angles that are a prerequisite for off-road ability.
Freedom_NU Platform: Multi-Energy Future
The Vision.T will make its entry with Mahindra’s new Freedom_NU platform, a flexible framework capable to accommodate petrol, diesel, hybrid and electric powertains. And this multi-energy strategy offers Mahindra the flexibility to cater to diverse market tastes in its various sales territories, while keeping a consistent design theme among its range of SUVs.
Mahindra’s Chakan facility, which boasts the Freedom_NU as its first product, has an annual capacity of 1.2 lakh units. This investment demonstrates Mahindra’s future readiness, whilst also reiterating its commitment to a clean, sustainable world as climate change and environmental pollution threaten the air we breathe.

Part Of Larger Vision Series
The Vision.T is one of four concept vehicles in the Mahindra Vision series, all of which are due to break cover on August 15. The Vision.S seems to be a teaser for an electric Scorpio, Meanwhile the Vision.SXT might be a Scorpion-based truck. The Vision.X is a compact urban SUV model concept design.
Hardcore off-roaders to ‘convenience’ urban SUVs: Each concept demonstrates a slightly different side of Mahindra’s future SUV strategy. The way the company is talking indicates a broad-scale electrification plan that doesn’t abandon its tough base.
Expected Specifications And Launch Timeline
Mahindra has avoided to reveal specifications of the Vision from earlier in the development process but industry sources indicate everything that was in the Vision is likely to become. T, which is expected to be priced at about ₹20 lakh, may hit the market in 2026. The production model is expected to get around 400-450km per charge and when a quick charge station is used take about 30mins to go from empty to 80%.
The electric Thar is likely retain basic off-road credentials such as practical ground clearance, water-wading capabilities and different terrain modes. On the higher end, expect Level-2 ADAS, a big ol’ touchscreen infotainment system and over-the-air update support.
Market Impact And Competition
The Vision.T is Mahindra’s most aggressive bet on electric off-roading, a category that has no real competition in India. Now, the urban electric SUV space is dominated by the Tata Nexon EV but no car maker has really bothered to electrify the hardcore off-road-lite section.
Mahindra could have a substantial first-mover advantage in a niche that dovetails perfectly with an increasing sense of environmental responsibility among outdoor enthusiasts. The Vision.T’s success may decide if electric vehicles will really be able to substitute ICE powertrains in challenging off-road conditions.
Freedom_NU on 15 August is expected to be a key moment for Mahindra that could change the face of the Indian SUV market and evidently the spirit of the brand. With the Vision.T driving the development process, it looks like Mahindra is ready to show that electrification and off-road capability can be friends after all.
