MG M9 Luxury Electric MPV Launches July 21 Price Rs 70L

“The MG M9 will be a true epitome of the brand’s innovation-led approach and commitment to its vision for clean, green and high-tech future mobility,” JSW MG Motor India’s flagship nation& arm director, Vai Shuang, said. What MG refers to as the presidential limousine will be the first product to go on sale solely in MG’s newly established MG Select upscale retail network.

Presidential Luxury Meets Electric Innovation

The MG M9 is the country’s first premium electric MPV taking on the conventional segment represented by the Toyota Vellfire and Kia Carnival. And it’s size: at 5,270mm in length, 2,000mm in width and 1,840mm in height, the M9 has some serious road presence, also boasting a generous wheelbase measuring 3,200mm.

The real knockout blow is with the second-row Presidential Seats – which feature 16-way power adjustability, eight massage programs, (naturally) heating and ventilation. These ergonomic, business class style seats with fold-out ottomans and a personal touchscreen controller give you a chauffeur-driven feel that doesn’t just redefine luxury, it redefines space, style and elegance in air travel.

Impressive Electric Performance

The powertrain consists of a 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack that is connected to the front-mounted electric motor, producing outputs of 245hp and 350Nm. IP from The range MG says a whopping 548km by internal measurement, with the WLTP-certified figure at 430km. Fast charging at speeds up to 160kW (DC) will charge to 80% within 90 minutes of charging, with 11kW AC charging around 10 hours for a full charge.

Premium Interior Experience

The interior gets the Cognac Brown leather and suede treatment to give a lounge feel. Digital appointments are led by a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support with a 7-inch driver’s display. Dual sun roofs, 64-colour ambient lighting and a JBL 12-speaker premium sound system are among the features in the M9.

The third-row is operable for adults, even when the second-row seats are in their normal positions, but to be fair, there’s little room when the Presidential Seats are fully upright.

Competitive Pricing Strategy

Expect the M9 to be priced at around Rs 70-75 lakh (ex-showroom), slotting it between the Kia Carnival (Rs 63.91 lakh) and much lower than the Toyota Vellfire (Rs 1.22-1.32 crore). This aggressive pricing is possible thanks to local CKD assembly at MG’s Gujarat factory which means that import duties aren’t as high as they would be for CBU imports.

Advanced Safety and Technology

The safety tech includes seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS with more than 8 functionalities, 360-degree camera, ABS with EBD, and electronic stability control. M9 is rated with a Five star Euro NCAP & Bharat NCAP was yet to certify the vehicle.

Market Positioning and Availability

Reservations are now underway for Rs 51,000 at MG Select dealerships in 13 cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai. The M9 will come in three colours: Mystic Grey, Luminous White and Cardiff Black.

The MG M9 is a dynamic new offering from MG which is expected to make a strong impression in the luxury MPV sub-segment in India with a good mix of electric innovation and chauffeur-focused luxury features. Thanks to its compelling price and long list of features, the model could potentially change the premium MPV segment post its launch when deliveries start.
