Maruti Ertiga CNG Leads 1.3 Lakh Sales: Complete FY2025 CNG Car Rankings

CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) cars are now a bigger segment than diesel cars in India, with a market share of 19.5% in FY 2025 compared to 6.3% five years ago, says CNG cars outpaced diesel cars in India’s passenger vehicle market as the Compressed Natural Gas, petrol and electric cars continued to gain a foothold in the domestic automobile market.

It is Maruti Ertiga CNG that has swept the game away with 1,29,920 units sold to top a segment that is changing the face of India’s automotive scene. Increasing fuel prices and development of CNG infrastructure is powering this transformation like never before, and the overall volume of CNG vehicle sales stood at 8,38,546 in FY2025.

Market Leaders Dominate Rankings

1. Maruti Ertiga CNG – 1,29,920 Units
The family-friendly MPV retains its top spot with good practicality and 26.11km/kg fuel economy. Priced from ₹11,00,499 ex-showroom Delhi, the bi-fuel setup of the Ertiga CNG is still pulling traction from the families who are looking for space and mileage.

2. Maruti Wagon R CNG – 1,02,128 Units
The compact hatchback bag second place in this list with a mileage of 33.47 km/kg and low ₹6,68,500 base price. Its spacious, uber-cheap cabin and size make it a hit in the city.

3. Maruti Dzire CNG – 89,015 units
Available at a starting price of ₹8,79,000 ex-showroom, Aura presents 33.73 km/kg as best in segment mileage in compact sedan category. The Dzire CNG is the best of both worlds – family and mileage.

Tata Makes Strong Showing

4. Tata Punch CNG – 71,113 Units
India’s micro-SUV space sees CNG offering in the Punch with an ARAI-rated range of 26.99 km/kg at an entry price of ₹7,29,990. This practical initiative enlarges Tata’s CNG offering, which so far was restricted to the conventional segments.

5. Maruti Vitara Brezza CNG – 70,928 Units
The compact SUV does extremely well in sales and has 25.51 km/kg efficiency, with a starting price of ₹9,64,000. Brezza CNG looks every bit like an SUV crossed with pragmatic running costs in its segment.

6. Maruti Eeco CNG – 59,520 Units
Targeted at commercial buyers, the no frills van is attractive with a fuel efficiency of 26.78 km per kg for ₹6,95,500. It comes in one trim level, which maximizes space and minimizes cost.

7. Hyundai Aura CNG – 49,464 units
Hyundai’s sedan offering offers 28.4 km/kg from ₹7,54,800 and gets the Korean manufacturer in the CNG race ambit.

8. Maruti Fronx CNG – 42,051 units
The modernised crossover styled hatchback starts at ₹8,49,500 and is good on 28.51 km/kg fuel efficiency.

9. Tata Nexon CNG – 34,712 Units
Turbocharged CNG SUV in India is rated at an impressive efficiency of 24 km/kg of gasoline. Priced from ₹8,99,990, it is the CNG technology for the new premium compact SUV segment.

10. Maruti Baleno CNG – 24,220 units
Suzuki’s upmarket premium hatchback completes the top 10 with 30.61 km/kg and ₹8,44,000, respectively.

Market Transformation Continues

Maruti Suzuki is the leader in CNG market with 70.5 per cent market share in the segment having sold 5,91,730 CNG cars in FY2025. Tata Motors is at the 2nd place with 1,39,460 units, followed by Hyundai and Toyota among manufacturers.
