New Delhi – Honda has officially overtaken Hero MotoCorp to become India’s best-selling two-wheeler brand in July 2025, marking a significant shift in the market hierarchy. The Japanese manufacturer reported a substantial sales surge, while its long-standing rival slipped to the second position despite recording strong year-on-year growth.
The industry shake-up comes as the two-wheeler segment shows positive momentum ahead of the upcoming festive season. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India (HMSI) dispatched 4,66,331 units in the domestic market, clinching the top spot with a considerable margin of over 53,000 units. This performance reflects a robust 6.2% year-on-year (YoY) growth and an impressive 19.9% month-on-month (MoM) increase.

Hero MotoCorp, while pushed to second place, sold 4,12,397 units domestically. The company registered a healthy 18.7% YoY growth but saw a sharp MoM decline of over 21% from its June 2025 figures, which ultimately cost it the leadership position.
The battle for market supremacy saw other key players post strong numbers, signaling a competitive road ahead.
- TVS Motor Company held its ground firmly in third place, with domestic sales reaching 3,08,720 units. This marks a solid 21% YoY increase for the Hosur-based manufacturer.
- Bajaj Auto secured the fourth position, reporting domestic sales of 1,39,279 units. The company faced an 18% decline in domestic sales but compensated with a strong 22% growth in exports.
- Suzuki Motorcycle India rounded out the top five, selling 96,029 units. The brand experienced a slight YoY dip of 4.5% in the domestic market.
Honda’s ascent is fueled by a series of new launches, including the mass-market CB125 Hornet and Shine 100 DX, aimed at strengthening its foothold in the commuter segment. Meanwhile, Hero MotoCorp is banking on new additions like the HF Deluxe Pro and its scooter lineup to reclaim momentum in the coming months. The overall domestic market for the top six manufacturers grew by 9.29% YoY, indicating healthy consumer demand.
