New Delhi: Hero MotoCorp has silently removed its flagship bike, the Mavrick 440, from the Indian market just 18 months after it went on sale. This effectively marks the demise of its most expensive – and poshest – model.
There is no unit made for Mavrick 440, Hero foregoes production in the past three months. As a result, dealers have stopped taking bookings for the motorcycle all across India. The launch of the Mavrick 440 is a bit surprising to us considering this was supposed to be a serious leap for Hero into the world of premium bikes.
The bike was built on the same platform as the successful Harley-Davidson X440. The Mavrick 440, on the other hand, limped out of the starting gate, reaching only double digits before it disappeared entirely from showroom floors. Likely reasons said for the failure include poor marketing and a design unfit to lure aspirational buyers.
Although a commercial crash, the Mavrick 440 was ridiculed by many of the experts for its punchy motor and comfortable ride. The motorcycle was powered by a 440cc single-cylinder ‘TorqX’ engine producing 27 bhp and 36 Nm of torque, paired with a six-speed transmission. The bike also had an all-LED lighting arrangement and a digital instrument cluster with smartphone integration.
Meanwhile, the discontinuation does raise some doubts regarding Hero’s strategy for the premium market. However the fact that Mavrick 440 has been removed from production lines and showrooms means it is effectively dead in India, despite being listed on the official company website.
