Mumbai: Tesla finally opened its first Supercharger station in India today, a significant development to develop the ecosystem here after entering the market last month. The hypercharger is now available at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai.
The move comes after Tesla recently launched the Model Y and opened its first Indian showroom, which is also in BKC. The new station is placed at the P1 level of the One BKC building.
The charging plaza offers a variety of charging solutions for different use cases. That includes four V4 Supercharger stalls capable of DC fast charging at speeds up to 250 kW. Moreover, it also includes four AC Destination Charging charging posts supporting a 11kW charging speed.
Needless to say, they are lightspeed compared to the experience for Tesla owners. 15 minutes — 267 kilometers (166 miles) of range for the Tesla Model Y. The cost for a high-speed DC Supercharger is ₹24 per kWh and for the slower AC Destination Chargers, it is priced at ₹11-14 per kWh. The whole process, from locating stalls that are available to charge to monitoring charging and payments, is handled through the Tesla app.
The Supercharger station will, at least initially, only be accessible to Tesla vehicles. In all, the company plans to open three more locations across Mumbai – Lower Parel, Thane and Navi Mumbai by end of August and in Q2FY18. Four Supercharger locations are also set to be added for Delhi NCR.
