New Delhi: The Skoda Kodiaq has entered record books, being the country’s first petrol SUV to reach the North Base Camp of Mount Everest. The record demonstrates the astonishing resilience and capability of the vehicle in the most gruelling on and off-road conditions.
The trip covered more than 6,000 kilometres of treacherous terrain over India, Nepal and China until they reached the Tibetan side of the world’s highest peak. And this trip puts paid to any question over whether the Kodiaq is well-built and dependable. The successful journey up the infernal snow-covered slope shows us how good its all-wheel-drive train really is, along with that very powerful motor, which is simply a must-have, in the kind of adventure like this.
The milestone coincides with the pending launch of the next-generation 2025 Skoda Kodiaq by Skoda Auto India. Previewed at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, this new model should land in India by mid-2025. At its heart will remain the trusted 2.0-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine, which makes 190 hp and 320 Nm of torque, mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.

The new Kodiaq is based on an updated MQB EVO architecture, with many styling updates. Now, it’s longer and features a reimagined exterior that includes an all-new hexagonal grille and streamlined Matrix LED headlights. The cabin will also be significantly improved with a minimalist look, a new 13-inch tablet-style infotainment system, and a fully digital driver’s display.
With such improvements and a strong history for durability, the 2025 Skoda Kodiaq is expected to come out a formidable player in the luxury SUV market competing with the likes of Toyota Fortuner.
