Triumph finally unveils its highly awaited Thruxton 400 café racer to debut in India by August 2025. The latest model, based on the popular Speed 400 platform has been seen testing on the Indian roads without any camouflaging covering its body parts, indicating its ready state for market launch.
The fourth motorcycle in the Triumph-Bajaj partnership gets a classic café racer design with modern performance credentials. It will add to the range of the popular 400cc category motorcycles from Triumph.
Performance and Specifications
The engine whether in a carb spec or not is the 398.15cc liquid-cooled single-speeder as used in the Speed 400. This DOHC motor makes 39.5 bhp at 8,000 rpm in addition to 37.5 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The engine comes mated to a six-speed gearbox that uses a slip and assist clutch for better gearshifts.
Key mechanical details include:
- Engine: 398.15cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled
- Power: 40 PS (39.5 bhp) at 8,000 rpm
- Torque: 37.5 Nm @ 6,500 rpm
- Brakes: 300mm disc (front), 230mm disc (rear), dual-channel ABS
- Suspension: 43mm USD (up side down) front forks and gas-charged rear monoshock
Design and Features
Based on the same cues as its bigger brother, the Speed Triple 1200 RR, the Thruxton 400 comes with an eye-catching retro half-fairing with bubble visor. The look gets more purposeful with low set clip-on handlebars, bar-end mirrors and a revised tail section, which provide a crouched and aggressive riding stance.
The bike continues with the semi-digital instrument cluster as on the Speed 400 and also gets all-LED lights. Its wheels are 17-inch alloy, and it is based on a hybrid spine/perimeter steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe.

Expected Price and Market Position
The Triumph Thruxton 400 could be priced between ₹2.60 lakh and ₹2.80 lakh (ex-showroom). It’ll sit somewhere in Triumph’s 400cc line-up – perhaps sandwiched between the Speed 400 and the Scrambler 400X – providing café racer fans with an unusual option. The motorcycle has also been testing in the vicinity of Bajaj’s Chakan manufacturing facility that is known to manufacturer 400cc models.
