BMW India has finally taken the wraps off its new second-generation 2 Series Gran Coupe with a starting price of Rs 46.90 lakh ex-showroom for the base 218i M Sport variant. The top-spec 218i M Sport Pro is priced at Rs 48.90 lakh. This is the cheapest luxury sedan from BMW in the Indian market.
The luxury carmaker had started pre-bookings for the entry-level sedan on July 9, 2025, with a booking amount of Rs 1.5 lakh. It is locally-produced at BMW Group Plant Chennai.
Engine And Performance Specifications
The 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe loses its diesel engine option altogether. Powering it was a 1.5-litre three-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that belts out 156 bhp and 230 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the front wheels via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
This is quite the departure from the old generation which was available with both petrol and diesel engines. The new engine combo helps the sedan offer a claimed fuel economy of 16.35 kmpl.
Design And Color Options
The second generation 2 Series Gran Coupe is a handsome looking car with the new-age BMW design language and sportier pretensions emphasised. Its exterior is even more expressive, with more presence and dynamism.
Indian customers are given four colour options by BMW:
- Black Sapphire
- Brooklyn Grey Metallic
- Alpine White
- M Portimao Blue Metallic
The 18-inch alloy wheel size is standard across both models.
Interior And Technology Features
The cabin is given a full makeover, exuding all the youthful vigor with a focus on the driver. The showstopper here is the Widescreen Curved display from BMW which integrates the infotainment system and the instrument cluster.
Key interior features include:
- Panoramic sunroof
- Powered front seats
- Ambient lighting
- Dual-zone climate control
- Harman Kardon music system
- Wireless charger
- Type-C charging ports
- Frameless windows
The car is powered by the latest BMW Operating System 9 and comes with extensive digital services.
Safety And Driver Assistance
Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera are standard across the 2 Series Gran Coupe range for added safety. The car is also equipped with a full range of safety kit, although airbag numbers did not appear in the launch release.
Market Positioning And Competition
BMW claims that the 2 Series Gran Coupe is its gateway vehicle to the luxury sedan class. The car rivals the Mercedes-Benz A-Class Limousine that is priced from Rs 46.05 lakh onwards and gets petrol and diesel options.
The Mercedes rival does a little more power and continues to offer diesel, but BMW hopes to distinguish itself with sportier handling and a higher spec. The new BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe is positioned under the BMW 3 Series sedan.

The launch signals BMW’s intention to increase its presence in the Indian luxury car sector targeting younger buyers who would like to get their first taste of the BMW experience.
