Kawasaki Slashes KLX230 Price; Local Production Changes The Game

Kawasaki India announces a massive price drop for the KLX230, re-launching the dual-sport motorcycle for Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The move comes as the brand begins local production of the bike, resulting in a staggering price reduction of nearly Rs 1.33 lakh. This aggressive new pricing positions the KLX230 as a direct challenger to established players in the segment, most notably the Hero Xpulse 210.

The made-in-India KLX230 is powered by a 233cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine. This motor is tuned to produce 18.1 hp of power and 18.3 Nm of peak torque, paired with a six-speed gearbox. With a light curb weight of just 139 kg, the bike offers a nimble and accessible package for both city riding and trail adventures.

Built on a high-tensile steel perimeter frame, the KLX230 is designed for rugged performance. It features 37mm telescopic front forks, a preload-adjustable rear monoshock, and disc brakes at both ends for reliable stopping power. For its India relaunch, the motorcycle is available in two new color schemes: Lime Green and Battle Grey.

“By introducing the New KLX230 manufactured in India…Kawasaki will bring the fun of off-road motorcycling to a wider range of customers and boost the off-road motorcycle scene in the Indian market,” said Mr. Yutaka Yamashita, Managing Director of India Kawasaki Motors Pvt. Ltd.

International Scene: New Variants Unveiled

While India gets the updated standard model, Kawasaki has also revealed two new variants for the 2026 global lineup: the KLX230 Sherpa S and the KLX230 DF.

  • KLX230 Sherpa S: This model focuses on accessibility, featuring a lower seat height achieved through shorter suspension travel.
  • KLX230 DF: A more off-road-centric version with longer suspension travel, higher ground clearance, and standard protective gear like a skid plate.

For now, the Indian market will receive the standard KLX230 ABS. The shift to local manufacturing marks a significant strategy change from its previous status as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) import, which carried a much higher price tag.
